Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye Review

Wild Turkey Rare Breed 112

This Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye is a fantastic new addition to the WT lineup and can proudly sit side-by-side with the always fantastic Rare Breed Bourbon. This is the kind of rye whiskey I want on my shelf at all times and is giving the Pikesville Rye a run for its money for my favorite off-the-shelf rye. SCORE: 4/5 The Rare Breed Rye, like the Rare Breed Bourbon, comes in at cask strength. In addition to the other ryes in Wild Turkey's lineup, the Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye is a welcomed permanent expression. While Jimmy Russell never really drank rye, he did continue to produce it when rye was at a low in consumption during the 1980s and 1990s Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye is loaded with citrus, licorice, pineapple, honey, and anise followed by lighter roasted oak, cinnamon, thyme, and fennel with some caraway seed rye breadiness. It starts sweet followed by a small surge of herbal and vegetal notes, with the oak remaining generally subdued

Wild Turkey Rare Breed is premium barrel proof whiskey offered as a bourbon and rye whiskey. The bourbon has a closet full of awards and is resoundingly admired by bourbon lovers. Rare Breed Rye is the first premium rye in the Wild Turkey lineup. These are bold, brash whiskeys that will knock your socks off I'm a big fan of the Wild Turkey range— the standard Rare Breed bourbon and the Russell's Single Barrels (both rye and the bourbon) are all contenders for some of my favorite standard bottlings. When this was announced I was ecstatic, despite never even having had the 101 rye Rare Breed Rye Overall. It's easy for me to say as a Wild Turkey guy that I enjoy this pour. I loved Cornerstone and 101 is a staple in my house. But Rare Breed Rye is what true Turkey fans have wanted for a long time. I said Cornerstone was the product that showed Wild Turkey's commitment to rye for the future

Among the old breed of rye whiskey fans, the folks that predate the Rye Craze of 2011-12, Wild Turkey's rye holds a special place. Even though it has always been a Kentucky rye, in that era when sourced brands based on MGP's 95% rye were only just becoming known, Wild Turkey 101 Rye was the bold and full-bodied favorite Those of you expecting a hard-edged rye whiskey will likely be disappointed; Wild Turkey's rye whiskey is from a mash bill of 52% rye, 36% corn, and 12% barley. It's just over the legally stipulated 51% for being labeled a rye whiskey, and I'm expecting a heaping helping of corny sweetness throughout these as a consequence Another turkey review, guess it's getting close to Thanksgiving. Nose - Sweet caramel and apples. I made an apple crumble last week where I made a caramel for the apples first instead of just tossing them in sugar and this smells exactly like that. The rye spice is very noticeable on the nose with baking spices and oak finish A smoothly executed dram that screams rye without being dill-heavy and keeps me coming back for more. This Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye is a fantastic new addition to the WT lineup and can proudly sit side-by-side with the always fantastic Rare Breed Bourbon

Comparison to Other Turkey Ryes Rare Breed Rye vs 101 Rye: Noses are very similar. Rare Breed is bright and lively whereas 101 tends more toward sweet caramel flavors . Rare Breed Rye vs Russell's Reserve Rye. Russell's Reserve is sweeter and fruitier on the nose Rare Breed has long been one of Wild Turkey's premium bourbon bottlings, the big selling point being that it's bottled uncut, at barrel proof. Now the Rare Breed brand is extending to that other American hallmark: Rye.
